An ESX file is the file format Xactimate uses to save and exchange an estimate or a measurement diagram.
What an ESX file contains
It holds the working data: the line items, quantities, pricing and, where included, the project sketch. Because it is the working file rather than a picture of it, you can open it in Xactimate, review it and change it. A roof measurement report in ESX carries the roof diagram and measurements in the same way.
ESX versus PDF
A PDF is a fixed document. It is easy to read and share but cannot be edited as an estimate. An ESX file can be opened and adjusted in the software. If you plan to edit the estimate or submit it through a platform that expects Xactimate files, ask for the Xactimate format.
What about Symbility?
Symbility is a separate claims platform with its own file format. Some carriers and adjusters work in it, so we also deliver reports and estimates in Symbility format.
Which should you ask for?
Use the format your carrier, adjuster or office works in. If you are unsure, email us before you order.
