A supplement is a request for additional payment on an insurance claim after the carrier has issued its estimate.
Why supplements happen
A carrier estimate is based on what was visible and measured at the time. Items can be left out, underpriced or discovered later, for example hidden damage found during tear-off or items required by local code. A supplement documents the difference.
What a supplement contains
- The line items to be added or corrected, in Xactimate or Symbility format.
- Measurements that support the quantities, such as a roof report.
- Photos of the existing conditions and the damage.
- A short explanation of why each item is needed.
What to gather before you request one
- The carrier's estimate.
- Your own photos and notes.
- Claim number, date of loss and the carrier's correspondence.
No guarantee
A carrier decides how to respond, and no one can guarantee the result. A clear, documented supplement gives the carrier what it needs to review the request.
